Yes it's that time of the year again, when a little gold man is the subject of a lot of speculation, you guessed it, it's Oscar time!
Around this time last year I decided to take a look at the graphic merit of all the posters that were created to promote the movies nominated for best picture, it was a mixed bag to say the least but the overall graphic winner was voted by the public as
Black Swan (mostly down to the excellent series of posters created by
LaBoca.
This year in the running are 9 films which are (in alphabetical order) The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, MoneyBall, Tree of Life and War Horse.
Here is a quick look at this years contenders and as last year I'll tackle them one by one looking at the typography, layout, styling and colour. As last year I'll run a little poll on the side, please feel free to vote so we can find out who this years graphic Oscar will go to. So without further ado, here is a look at this years contenders;
So first up will be The Artist, as readers of this blog will know was the subject of an earlier post, so all comments encouraged and if you have anything to add to the debate please do.
No surprise that I choose The Artist... but I really do think it's the best poster as well as the best film.
ReplyDeleteI could have guessed as much! On first look it is a bit of a poor selection this year, but you never know what might turn up after a bit of research! As a general rule movie posters have been on the decline for decades now, gone are the days where you would ask at the cinema if they had a spare copy of a poster or lobby card for your favourite film, that is why places like Mondo (http://www.mondoarchive.com/archive/2011/)make a killing on reimagining both old and new movie posters. Stay tuned and let's see who wins! Thanks for popping by.
